The Writer's Choice

This morning, when I logged into my Facebook account, I noticed I have a message in there. There was a question: What do you enjoy most about writing romance? That got me thinking about writing in general. Why do some people choose to be writers while others are content to be readers?
Personally for me, I chose to write because I was no longer satisfied with reading. When I discovered romantic suspense (to this day my favorite genre to read), I read so many of those books that they all started to look the same to me. I found myself predicting the outcomes and figuring out the killer’s identity within the first fifty pages. While reading, I would come up with plot twists that the authors never used. Eventually, I would come up with characters to go with those plots. My head became full of ideas, characters, and plots that were yet unwritten. Some of those ideas made chills run down my back (mystery) or my heart flutter with happiness (romance). I knew those stories would have to be told. I had to write them. Ever since I accepted the fact that one day I’ll be an author, reading other people’s writing has become enjoyable once more.
So what is your story? Why did you choose to write rather than just read?
